Currently, I'm still riding the high of being at the 2300 Arena for AEW Dynamite last night. It was always a dream of mine to go to a show here one day, and it sure didn't disappoint. So, here's a recap of everything I saw and remember.

Pre-Show Atmosphere in Philadelphia

I got to the building at some point after 3:00 PM, and as I walked around the front of the building, I saw Stokely Hathaway parking his car. I didn't want to bother him, so I just kept walking and killed some time in the area. A bit after 4:30 PM, I decided to walk back around the arena and wound up seeing Action Andretti. Again, he was another talent who looked busy, so I left him alone. I ended up sitting along the front of the building, closer to the corner of Swanson and Ritner. Turns out this was the best place to see the wrestlers.

Wheeler Yuta walked past me, and I instinctively said, "Yo, wassup Yuta." He turned and replied, "What's up," and kept walking. Then, I saw Stokely again. I actually said hi to him this time. He was nice enough to reply back, being accompanied by AEW security's Cheesecake. Somewhere in the midst of all this, in the back parking lot where all the backstage stuff was set up, there was a bit of a situation. Later in the evening, I overheard fans in the back area, who were waiting to spot the wrestlers as they entered, saying that a guy was causing trouble. You know the kind of fan who waits at the airport with a bunch of stuff for the obviously tired wrestlers to autograph so he can sell it on eBay? That's who this guy was. He had a bunch of Kenny Omega figures, apparently, and shoved a chair in the window of Bobby Lashley's car for him to sign. Because of his rowdy behavior, some wrestlers wound up not signing anything for the fans. I hear he even went past the barrier into the parking lot. After seeing that video of Rhea Ripley in Paris, it's clear that wrestling fan etiquette has a long way to go.

I stood in line until a little after 6:30 PM when the doors opened, enduring the IATSE's understable and slightly irritating protest. All I'll say about the IATSE situation is that it was interesting to hear the protest organizers list off how profitable AEW has been, meanwhile so-called "journalists" and "influencers" constantly act like the company on the verge of bankruptcy.

Once the doors opened, security took my sign to check if it was appropriate and asked me to come back for it (I didn't). After this, I immediately began searching for the earlier announced Young Bucks Meet and Greet. It only cost me 20 bucks and gave me some great photos.

Look at those Bucks just beaming with joy!

It also came with an autographed 8x10. From there, I grabbed some food and then took my seat.

There were some matches for Ring of Honor taped so I'll talk about those.

Brief ROH Spoilers (Spoiler Warning Duh)

The first was Santam Singh vs CPA. Singh won that. Then, Josh Woods beat local wrestler Matt Mako in a decent Pure Rules match filled with rowdy heckling from the crowd. GCW's Jordan Oliver and The Beast Mortos had a fun little match that ended with a Mortos victory. For the last match, we had Aaron Solo vs Hologram, which may have been my favorite of these matches. Hologram was the victor. With ROH done, AEW Dynamite soon began.

AEW Dynamite Results

The show started with Gabe Kidd's voice. I couldn't actually see him because people were standing up. So until he actually got in the ring, all I heard was some angry British guy yelling about Darby Allin. Terrifying. Although maybe not as terrifying as Darby coming out, attacking Kidd, smacking Wheeler Yuta with a thumbtack skateboard, and then committing attempted murder in the parking lot. At some point the Opps and Hook came out and brawled with the Death Riders. It was a chaotic opening that I couldn't see much of, but boy, was the crowd fired up about it.

TBS Championship: Mercedes Moné (c) def. Alex Windsor

Mercedes Mone and Alex Windsor face off in an AEW Dynamite promo. Text: "TBS Championship, Live! Wed, Sept 3, 8/7c, Philadelphia, PA."

Our first match of the evening was the TBS title match between Mercedes Moné and Alex Windsor. I found myself enjoying this one a lot. A lot of back-and-forth action with Windsor not backing down from the champ's offense. It ended with Mercedes getting a surprise rollup for the win. Afterwards, Riho finally made her long-awaited AEW return after over a year and saved Windosr from a beat down by Moné.

Next, we got a short backstage segment with the Opps asking Hook where his loyalties lie since there seemed to be tension between him and the group. Long story, short, Hook is upset he was replaced by Hobbs in the group while injured, but they still have his back regardless. There was another segment with Ricochet and The Gates of Agony (Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun) challenging The Hurt Syndicate to a match at All Out later this month (A challenge that was accepted by the group later in the show.)

What followed next was Mark Briscoe cutting a promo on how important the 2300 Arena is to his wrestling career, briefly mentioning his deceased brother Jay which spurred some chants for him. He then went on to discuss how Don Callis would only allow him to take on TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher if he wrestled another member of the Don Callis family. The DCF all came out and Callis revealed that this Saturday on Collision, he'd be taking on Konosuke Takeshita. Unsatisfied, Briscoe demanded an opponent right then and there. Lance Archer ended up accepting the challenge.

Mark Briscoe def. Lance Archer

This impromptu match had a lot going for it. It had outsides dives, some chokeslams, and lots of chops. I even got a good shot of one of them. Despite Archer towering over Briscoe like a giant, he took the L here after after a Froggy Bow elbow drop from Mark Briscoe.

From here, we had some backstage segments involving the women. Women's World Champion Toni Storm had a short promo challenging any woman to face her for the title. Some of my favorite lines include, "Philadelphia freaks, lend me your ears" and "But don’t worry, darlings. God doesn’t judge. That’s my job!" Next was a promo featuring Harley Cameron and Kris Statlander where Harley challenged Brodido to a match and we saw Kris once again tease joining the Death Riders. Speaking of Brodido, they wrestled next.

AEW World Tag Team Championship: Brodido def. Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta

Wrestlers Bandido, Brodie King, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castognoli with title belts on a vibrant AEW Dynamite poster.

As Brodido's first defense of their newly won tag titles, this was an excellent match. It served as a great showcase of their abilities as a team. I didn't really notice until seeing them in action like this that most of their offense involves using one another's bodies as a weapon. Near the end of the bout, there was a giant swing from Claudio to Bandido, which led into a dropkick from Yuta. Brodie then broke up the pinfall that followed. Jon Moxley, who had just attacked Brodie at ringside unbeknownst, looked to do it again before Darby Allin appeared and stopped him. Bandido was then able to hit a 21 Plex on Yuta and score the victory as Darby escaped the grasp of The Death Riders.

After this contest, Kazuchika Okada teased a feud with Takeshita, saying that Takeshita may be "The Alpha," but he's "The Top Dog, bitch."

In one of the most chaotic scenes of the night, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage came to the ring to speak until they were rudely interrupted by FTR.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler brawled in and out of the ring with the two, as Harwood's head bled profusely, until wrestlers backstage came out to stop them. Jordan Oliver was one of them and received an assisted pile driver from FTR for his efforts. Adam Priest was another one of these wrestlers and got physical with FTR, no doubt still reeling from losing against them last week on Collision in tag team action. This led to FTR challenging Priest to find another tag team partner so they could have another match. The next day, it was announced that Priest's partner would be Tommy Billington.

Kyle Fletcher, Josh Alexander & The Young Bucks def. "Hangman” Adam Page, Kenny Omega & JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey) — 8-Man Tag

Wrestlers pose with titles on a colorful AEW Dynamite poster. Text highlights an 8-man tag event on Sep 3 at 8/7c in Philadelphia.

For much of this match, the Don Callis family and the Jacksons played the role of aggressors. Josh Alexander eyeraked Kenny Omega after being taken down by tag partner Adam Page at the start of the match. This led to Kyle Fletcher coming in and attacking Omega. Speedball was eventually tagged in, but was soon overpowered by Alexander.

When this was announced, I couldn't contain my excitement over how good it would be, and boy, did it live up to the hype. I attended Dynasty at the Liacouras Center in April, so it's been cool seeing how much Kevin Knight has improved since his match with Ospreay. I'm stealing this from a post I saw on Twitter, but the man wrestles like Spider-Man, minus the webs. He's so smooth and precise with his movements and plays the babyface role really well, just like his tag partner, Speedball Mike Bailey.

A noteworthy moment came once Page/Omega faced off against the Jacksons in a showdown reminiscient of their highly praised match from Revolution 2020. The four men wound up trading blows with one another. Nick Jackson attempted to hit Page with his own Buckshot Lariat but hit his brother Matt instead. Page attacked Nick while Omega struck Matt with his signature V-Trigger knee. Omega and Page attempted to land a Buckshot/Trigger combo on Matt but Nick made the save. The two brothers then hit superkicks on their opponents before the fired back with clotheslines, knocking down all four men.

There was a point where Bailey and Alexander were standing on top of the guardrail outside the ring. Knight then jumped from the ring onto Alexander with both men crashing into the front row. Nick Jackson then arrived to superkick Knight before diving back into the ring to help Fletcher piledrive him. He then dove back outside the ring to help his brother Matt piledrive Speedball.

The match came to a close when Fletcher hit Knight with a devastating brainbuster. Afterwards, The Don Callis family beatdown their defeated opponents and the show closed with Fletcher putting Kenny Omega through a table.

If you couldn't tell already, I loved this episode of Dynamite and it's probably my favorite wrestling show that I've ever attended. The experience before I even got in the building was so cool and it only got better once the show started. I have no clue when I'll see AEW live again but I do hope it's very soon.
